Lons in Paradise Valley (Scottsdale area), AZ (5532 N Palo Cristi Rd, PV 85252), never fails to please. It's a winner in all categories: food, wine and atmosphere. But it's the ambiance that is the real key to its winning ways.
Named after the late, famed western artist, Alonzo (Lon) Megargee, this charming restaurant occupies several rooms in what was once his authentic adobe hacienda--home and studio. The architecture is the cozy mix of Spanish and Mexican influences that are typical of some of the best southwestern decor.
Dining rooms range from 12 people (ideal for small private parties) to larger ones offering quiet corners for intimate couples dinners. Several rooms have glowing fireplaces. Colorful native rugs cover natural stone, warm wood and slate floors. Antique Mexican sideboards and other vintage pieces reinforce the truly authentic feel. Comfortable Mexican-influenced leather chairs complete the mix.
An ample wine list nicely complements the skillfully prepared and beautifully served food. Many have a subtle southwestern flavor and most represent unique flavors and combinations, inventive seasonings and wonderfully delightful tastes. In many visits, it has never failed to provide a charming and satisfying experience, for just two or larger groups.
