"I Love You, But . . ."
by Nicole Bradley
It was my birthday and I had returned home from the doctor. Yes, I had to go to the doctor on my birthday. I received medication and all was well. I was sitting at the dining room table wondering where my boyfriend was. He comes through the door with a dozen roses in a vase. I was surprised. He said, "Read the card." I said, " I will."
"Seriously, read the card."
The card read, I love you but...
"But what?" I asked with an attitude.
He dropped to one knee, looked me in the eye, brought one hand from behind his back and placed a beautiful, small box in my hand and said, "Will you marry me?" I screamed, "Yes," and opened the box to the most beautiful ring which he removed and placed on my finger. We've been married 6 years now.
